Mission: Impossible – Fallout  opened with a solid $23 million on Friday, including $6m in Thursday preview gross (another Cruise record).  Mission: Impossible – Fallout That’s Cruise’s second-biggest single day gross, sans inflation, behind the $23.1m opening Friday of   War of the Worlds  back in 2005, and thus his biggest opening day figure.

A different kind of record was set this weekend in that it was the first weekend ever where eight of the top ten films at the weekend box office were sequels.

It turns out, Dwayne Johnson was no match for Dracula and company. “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” topped the domestic box office charts with $44 million from 4,267 locations, while Dwayne Johnson’s “Skyscraper” washed up with a paltry $25.5 from 3,782 theaters. Sony’s animated family feature picked up $46.4 million overseas this weekend for a global start of $100 million, including Amazon Prime showings. The third installment of the franchise — featuring the voices of Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, and Kathryn Hahn — carried an $80 million production budget. “We’re thrilled,” Sony’s president of worldwide distribution Josh Greenstein said. “We took the No. 1 slot this weekend with a tremendous amount of competition.” As the first film in the series debuting during summer (its predecessors opened in September), Greenstein said the studio hopes “Hotel Transylvania 3” will benefit in coming weeks from kids being out of scho...

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Though new entries “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” and “Uncle Drew” scored higher debuts than expected, “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” still reigns supreme at the domestic box office. “Fallen Kingdom” picked up $60 million from  4,485  locations in its second outing, bringing its domestic tally to $264.8 million . Even with a 59% drop, the dinosaur tentpole has nothing to fear.

On its sixth Friday in theaters, “Deadpool 2” joined its predecessor in an elite box office club as it became only the fifth film to gross $300 million at the domestic box office while holding an R rating. Deadpool Along with the two “Deadpool” films, the other movies in this group are “The Passion of the Christ,” “American Sniper” and last year’s remake of “It.”

"Ocean's 8," the female-fronted overhaul of the starry heist franchise, opened with an estimated $41.5 million at the box office, taking the weekend's top spot from the fast-falling "Solo: A Star Wars Story." Ocean's 8 At a lower price point and in less fanboy-guarded franchise, "Ocean's 8" — despite ho-hum reviews — found nothing like the stormy reception than the female-led "Ghostbusters" reboot did on the same weekend two years ago.

Ocean's 8 is an all-female cast of a lifetime. It stars a true smorgasbord of the baddest ladies in entertainment, including Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Awkwafina, and none other than Rihanna herself. “Ocean’s 8” is an all-female flick and it's on a solid opening weekend of about $41 million from 4,145 North American locations.

Black Panther Black Panther  has become the highest-grossing superhero of all time after the Marvel blockbuster surpassed the previous mark set by  The Avengers, Rolling Stone reports . Six weeks after its release, following Friday's night total,  Black Panther has raked in over $624 million at the domestic box office since its February 16th arrival.  The Avengers previously held the record with $623 million in 2012,  the Hollywood Reporter  writes . By the end of the weekend,  Black Panther  will likely sit at Number Five on the all-time (not adjusted for inflation) domestic box office list, behind  Star Wars: The Force Awakens ,  Avatar ,  Titanic  and  Jurassic World ; this weekend,  Black Panther  will have jumped over  The Avengers  and  Star Wars: The Last Jedi  on the all-time list  according to Box Office Mojo .
